The bio-inert microneedles developed by Tecan feature ultra-smooth and sharp edges for a minimally invasive method for transdermal drug delivery, biosensing, and other medical applications including aesthetics.

The technology around microneedles is progessing at a significant rate and we are dedicated to helping our customers produce next-generation devices.

Already we have seen how advances in (eg) Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) are leading to microneedles being used to monitor other vitals such as potassium and ketones.

Solid microneedles fabricated through chemical etching possess several distinct characteristics that make them suitable for various biomedical applications. Our chemical etching process allows for the precise control of microneedle dimensions, ensuring uniformity and consistency in the final product.

Solid metallic microneedles can be produced in-plane or out of plane (for Multi Array Patches) and are superior to non-metallic microneedles for penetrating the skin barrier, the stratum corneum (10-20µm) for consistent delivery into the viable dermis and dermis layers.

dermaroller microneedles

Microneedling is an innovative method of skin treatment that involves using a tool with a number of microneedles to penetrate the superficial layer of skin.

biosensing

Minimally invasive wearable biosensors continuously monitor biomarkers of health and performance or can be
used as diagnostic devices for measuring biomarkers. Conductive microneedles with an electrochemical sensor
function to send signals to electronics to analyse and monitor.

drug delivery

Minimally invasive, microneedles work by creating tiny, painless channels in the skin to deliver drugs directly into the epidermis or dermis. Solid microneedles can be coated with drugs, which are then delivered into the skin
upon application.
